Listening strategies for watching videos

This video shows you strategies for ways to better understand natural English. Before you watch a video, you can predict the topic, and activate prior knowledge. During your listening exercises, there are several ways to listen, and different things to listen for. Using these strategies will help you get the most out of your activities.

There are several skills associated with listening ability, including knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, syntax (how words are organized within sentences) and word segmentation (the ability to hear individual words within sentences). By watching videos and answering questions on them to test your comprehension, you will develop your ability to understand spoken English at a natural pace.

You can read a short explanation about each unit before you watch the video and take the quiz. There is no time limit for this activity, so take your time, stop, and rewind the video as many times as you need to help you better understand the content.

This is a fictional story about some hikers who have some scary things happen to them. This video gives you a chance to listen to a narrative story and learn about the setting, plot and characters of a story. In many areas of our lives, we sometimes encounter problems, or try to do puzzles. This video explains in detail about how humans deal with problems and how they try to solve them. This a fairy tale about a man Hans who meets an old woman. In fairy tales, there are unusual characters, and events, and some lessons. This is an audio book, so you can just listen to the story.
